The second reading for today's Eucharistic celebration comes from St Paul's letter to the Romans 10: 8-13. It speaks of the message to believers that we are saved by faith but our words and actions must result from that.
Father brought up a distinction between St Paul's message and that of Christ, which spoke to non-believers that it is not those who call Christ as Lord that will be saved. The context is different and the audience was different. Wow, again it reminded me to not see things from just one perspective; in this case being the message, and not the context.
I also thought of how many a time I have jumped to my own conclusions and assumptions that caused me to react to the limited information I had at that particular moment. I really need to consciously remind myself that I must listen to things in their entirety and respond accordingly...
We were next asked to reflect on the comfort and joy that we get, knowing that we will be saved when we call on God. Angie reminded me that though we encountered loads of trials and obstacles here in Perth, God has always responded in His own humorous ways and have gotten us through them all. It is on hindsight that we see all these blessings that He has lavished upon us. It is indeed comforting to realise that God cares for us.
It was what Father said that got me thinking though. He told us that God saves us from ourselves. It is so very true. Without God leading and directing us in our lives, we would easily have gone astray, given up on life, done any bad things that could be conceivable. God has saved us from our sins, and He has saved us from our sinful self.
Thank you for your saving grace Lord. May I be more like you and less like me.
